We need your help.
We need to have a conversation that we haven’t had before.
Recently our team spent hours with a young person who had been groomed sexually for the porn industry.
This young person was underage and vulnerable. They’d been targeted in a predatory manner.
As we sat there, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room. Hearts were broken, lives shattered. Trauma had wreaked it’s path.
As we grappled with the situation we couldn’t help but question how this happened. How had they found themselves in such a dark place? In such a moment of crisis, why hadn’t they asked anyone for help?
The reality is that many of our young boys are in crisis.
We believe there is a distinct lack of positive male voices showing the journey to manhood.
Whereas in yesteryear there were uncles and dads, football coaches and teachers to show the road.
Today these voices have largely been stifled, or the relationships no longer exist.
So instead youth turn online and the loudest voices are those of TikTok influences, Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson.
There is almost no other voice showing the way to manhood.
Is it any wonder a generation of boys feel lost?
As we worked with this teenager we soon saw the impact of a sexualised society too. Our culture has normalised porn and turns a blind eye to the internal damage it’s causing.
At the Commission on the Status of Women in New York, Melinda Tankard Reist said,
“The global porn industry runs primarily on the backs of women and girls and disseminates sexual exploitation primarily online.
It is a mammoth dispenser of sexualised violence and misogyny; the world’s most powerful sexual groomer.
It is also the world’s largest department of education. Many titles feature the sexual abuse and rape of teen and underage girls. When the war in Ukraine broke out, the most popular search term on porn sites was for ‘Ukrainian girl’.
The mass dehumanisation of women and girls in mainstream pornography leads to an epidemic of violence against them. We are confronted with Big Tech at its worst.
Young men are learning to take pleasure in and get off on torture and humiliation videos, fed a diet of rape porn and racist sexual abuse.
Schoolboys entertain each other with gang rape video and girls are reduced to porn fantasy sex props.
The global research establishes pornography as a driver of violence against women and girls.”
Amongst the crises of wellbeing in youth; there is a black hole on the map from boyhood to manhood.
Boys in our local community need help. They need the grown ups (you and I) to address the issue and show the way forward.
So, would you help us?
Would you partner with us again to intervene and these boys into becoming strong, kind, gentle, empathetic and courageous?
We want to form a new boys program and camp. We want to create a space where boys can walk this rite of passage into manhood.
Will you help?
