We have an incredible story to share with you this month! We’re going to get straight into it.
Two 20-year-olds left the Judes Gala hungry (no knock on the food-just bottomless young appetites) and headed to McDonald’s. On the drive, they noticed a girl huddled in the doorway of a closed café, clearly in distress.
They were about to stop when another car pulled up. A woman jumped out and tried to force the girl into her vehicle. The girl resisted, crying and refusing. Eventually, the woman gave up and drove away, leaving the girl sobbing alone.
The young couple sat in shock. They’d just heard about Mr. Stephenson, who cared for youth during the 1880s well-being crisis. His mantra? “Go and do likewise.”
Not sure what to do, they called the police and stayed nearby, watching over her from a distance-for two hours. Eventually, a man (likely her father) arrived, and she seemed safe with him.
It was a first for the couple, and it left them with big questions:
What do you do in a moment like that?
Should they have approached her?
Why didn’t the police come?
But one thing was clear: “Go and do likewise” takes practice.
Learning to see – how many people drove by without noticing her?
Learning to stay – it would’ve been easy to leave, but they chose to wait and protect.
Learning to reflect – because now that they’ve seen, they’ll be more ready next time.
Who would’ve thought that within an hour of the Judes Gala, two young people would already be living its message?
Launceston will become the safest place for young people when this kind of love multiplies.
