Let’s talk about the elephant in the room when it comes to charity.
It is popular to choose charities who promise that 100% of the donation goes to the cause. However within the charity world, this is not best practice.
It causes charitable organisations to:
- Run inefficiently
- Have poor governance – this is especially detrimental when it comes to safety issues such as child safe compliance. Without investing in overheads, we can’t keep kids safe
- Miss out on recruiting top talent
- Be unable to fund accounting and audit fees
which risks good stewardship - Hindered in creation and implementation of
long-term strategic plans - Be unable to reach necessary scale to make
a dent in the major societal issues.
When you give to Jude’s, a portion of your donation will go to overheads. Things like insurance, other wages, governance and utilities all keep the lights on. It is best practice. Thank you for keeping the lights on. Both literally, and metaphorically.
